Journal #4

1. How does drinking alcohol fit into the Westminster College mission and values?
- Obviously if students were following the mission and values very closely, there would be very little drinking and absolutely no underage drinking. This being said, we all know it's going to happen. The best way for students to maintain the values and mission while still drinking is to know their limits. You're going to show integrity and responsibility if you know when to quit and are still able to maintain a high GPA and go to campus activities.

2. List 3 "party smart" strategies that you will use if you choose to drink. If you do not drink, please list 3 strategies that were discussed in class. Also provide details as to why these strategies would work and why you would choose them.
- Three "party smart" strategies I would use if I were to drink would be: know your limits, keep track of how many you've had in a certain period of time, and never pick up and unattended drink. These strategies will work because if you know your limits, you aren't very likely to ever have too much. Also, if you keep track of the amount and the time periods, you can space out your drinks to lessen the intoxication limit. Finally, if you only accept drinks that you witnessed being poured and never picked up an un-attended drink then there is little to no chance of something slipping something into your drink.

3. Please list three "problem alcohol" behaviors and how they affect campus culture.
- A. Loss of control/blacking out. This affects campus culture because it can be a very scary situation and multiple people can end up getting hurt.
  B. Being hungover. If a student if hungover then they obviously had way too much to drink. If this occurs then the student if less likely to attend school functions and will do poor on their school work.
  C. Legal issues. If students on campus keep having run-ins with the law over drinking, the people in the community will think Westminster is unsafe and full of students who don't care and won't succeed in life.
